U.S. Furniture Orders Increase Year-over-Year
U.S. residential furniture factory orders in December 2023 were $2.0 billion, up 5.0% from the comparable month in 2022 but 19.1% lower than in November. U.S. Manufacturing Shipments Down in January
Seasonally adjusted shipments for all U.S. manufacturing industries in January were $572.3 billion, declining 1.0% from December 2023. Wood product shipments grew 1.0% in January to $13.4 billion compared to the prior month. Shipments of furniture and related products increased 1.4% from December to $6.8 billion. January Construction Spending Dips
U.S. construction spending in January was estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $2.1 trillion, declining 0.2% from December 2023 but 11.7% higher than January 2023. Private construction spending was $1.6 trillion, growing 0.1% from December 2023. Residential totals were $900.8 billion in January, up 0.2% from the previous month. Canadian Housing Starts Improve in February
The monthly standalone seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of Canadian housing starts in February was 253,468 units, 13.6% higher than January.
