U.S. residential furniture factory orders in December 2023 were $2.0 billion, up 5.0% from the comparable month in 2022 but 19.1% lower than in November. New orders were $27.3 billion in 2023, a 5.4% increase from 2022.
Furniture shipments dipped 14.4% from December 2022 to $2.1 billion, a decrease of 0.8% from November 2023. Total shipments in 2023 were $28.3 billion, a 17.2% decline from 2022. December 2023 backlogs were $2.6 billion, shrinking 32.5% from 2022 and down 5.6% from the prior month. See Smith Leonard
