May U.S. Construction Spending Increases Month-over-Month

U.S. construction spending in May reached a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $2.21 trillion, improving 0.1% from April but 1.5% lower year-over-year.

Total public and private residential spending grew 0.4% month-over-month and 1.8% from May 2025 to $942.78 billion. Non-residential spending totaled $1.27 trillion, unchanged from April but down 3.8% from the same month last year. Private construction spending was consistent with April but fell 2.1% from May 2025 to $1.67 trillion.

Educational construction spending was $138.47 billion, 0.3% above the prior month but dipping 2.8% from May 2025. Healthcare construction spending edged up 0.3% from April but dropped 3.5% year-over- year to $74.55 billion.
