December U.S. Consumer Confidence Shrinks

U.S. consumer confidence registered at 89.1 in December 2025, down 3.8 points from the adjusted November reading and the fifth month of declines, according to The Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index. The index measuring current business and labor market conditions fell 9.5 points in December to 116.8. The short-term outlook index for the income, business, and labor markets was unchanged at 70.7 points, remaining below the 80-mark for the eleventh straight month, indicating a potential recession.
