Canadian Federal Plastics Registry Reporting Deferred

On December 19, 2025, Environment and Climate Change Canada informally notified stakeholders that Phases 2 and 3 of the Canadian Federal Plastics Registry (FPR) are being deferred due to challenges and the complexity of reporting. The FPR is an initiative to gather data annually from plastics manufacturers and companies across the related value chain to track plastics in Canada from production through end of life. Phase 2 included resin production, plastic packaging for construction materials, and plastic waste generation at industrial facilities. A formal Notice of Intent to defer reporting will be published in the Canada Gazette. Engagement on changes to the FPR is expected in 2026. More Info: Kevin Warkentin
