August U.S. Construction Spending Up from Prior Month

U.S. construction spending in August was estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $2.17 trillion, 0.2% higher than July but 1.6% lower than the same month in 2024.

Residential expenditures increased 0.8% from July to $927.3 billion but shrank 1.8% from last year. Non-residential expenditures were $1.2 trillion, dipping 0.2% from July and down 1.5% from August 2024. Private spending rose 0.3% from July but fell 2.9% from August 2024 to $1.65 trillion.

Educational construction spending in the private and public sectors totaled $137.6 billion, 0.7% above the previous month but 1.5% below August 2024. Construction spending on healthcare was $69.6 billion, growing 0.2% from July and 0.9% from the comparable month last year.
