March Canadian building permits totaled $13.5 billion, up 10.3% from February and 8.5% higher than the comparable month last year.
Residential authorizations fell 3.3% from February and 3.0% from March 2025 to $8.0 billion. Single-family building permits were unchanged month-over-month but decreased 0.6% year over year to $2.7 billion. Multi-family permits dropped 4.9% from February and were down 4.1% from March 2025 to $5.3 billion.
Non-residential permits totaled $5.5 billion, surging 38.4% from February and 30.8% from the comparable month in 2025. See Statistics Canada
