On May 22, the European Commission published the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) benchmarking country classification list that determines the deforestation risk of countries exporting wood products to the EU. Canada and the United States have been classified as low risk, while Mexico has been listed as standard risk. Wood products imported into the EU from low-risk countries are eligible for simplified due diligence procedures that do not include assessment and mitigation but do require information collection obligations (e.g., geolocation information). Countries deemed standard or high risk are required to complete full due diligence, including risk assessment and mitigation. The EUDR remains scheduled to go into effect on December 30, 2025.
