UN Organization Issues Statement Sustainable Bioeconomy

The Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) recently issued a statement supporting the role that the forest-based bioeconomy may play in climate change mitigation and sustainable development. The statement, issued by the FAO’s Advisory Committee on Sustainable Forest-based Industries, highlights how the forest and wood product sectors are integral to the successful implementation of several UN Sustainable Development Goals. The Committee identified several objectives to enhance the role of these industries, highlighting the importance of active forest management and the “cascading principle” or a ranking of best uses for forest derived resources.  See FAO
