U.S. Single-Family Home Size Decreases

The 2022 U.S. Census Quarterly Starts and Completions by Purpose and Design report showed that the median square footage of new single-family homes in the fourth quarter dropped to 2,472 square feet compared to 2,561 from the same period in 2021. This trend is anticipated to continue as the housing demand weakens due to higher interest rates. See NAHB
