The United States opened 521 new hotel properties and 55,395 rooms during March-September 2020, more than any other country globally according to research by STR. In September, there were 216,063 rooms in the U.S. under construction, an increase of 6.1% over 2019.
The number of construction projects that moved to deferral was 211, rising 56% over the same period in 2019. Hotel construction projects totaling 233 were eliminated, a 16% increase over the previous year. See STR
