U.S. housing starts in August were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.42 million, down 5.1% from the revised July estimate but 2.8% higher than the comparable month last year. Single-family housing starts increased 4.1% from July to 1.02 million.
U.S. building permits in August were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.47 million, falling 0.9% from July, and decreasing 0.1% from the same month in 2019. Single-family authorizations grew 6.0% from July to 1.04 million. See U.S. Census Bureau
