U.S. Housing Starts Up in May

U.S. housing starts in May were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.57 million, rising 3.6% above the revised April estimate and 50.3% higher than the comparable month in 2020. Single-family housing starts increased 4.2% from April to 1.19 million.

U.S. building permits in May were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.68 million, dropping 3% from April but growing 34.9% from the same month in 2020. Single-family authorizations decreased 1.6% from March to 1.13 million. See U.S. Census Bureau
