U.S. Housing Starts Soften in March

U.S. housing starts in March were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.3 million, decreasing 14.7% from February and 4.3% lower than the comparable month last year. Single-family starts fell 12.4% to 1.0 million in March.

U.S. building permits were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.5 million, down 4.3% from February but 1.5% higher than March 2023. Single-family authorizations dropped 5.7% from February to 973,000. See U.S. Census Bureau
