U.S. Housing Starts Increase in May

U.S. housing starts in May were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.631 million, growing 21.7% from April and 5.7% higher than the comparable month last year. Single-family starts rose 18.5% to 997,000 over April.

U.S. building permits were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.491 million, improving 5.2% from April but falling 12.7% from May 2022. Single-family authorizations were up 4.8% from April to 897,000. See U.S. Census Bureau
