U.S. Housing Starts Increase in August

U.S. housing starts in August were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.58 million, rising 12.2% from the revised July figure but 0.1% lower than the comparable month last year. Single-family starts grew 3.4% from July to 935,000.

U.S. building permits in July were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.52 million, dropping 10% from July and falling 14.4% from the same month in 2021. Single-family authorizations shrank 3.5% from July to 899,000 in August. See U.S. Census Bureau
