U.S. housing starts in May were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.26 million, down 9.8% from the revised April figure and 4.6% lower than the comparable month last year. Single-family starts rose 0.4% from April to 924,000.
U.S. building permits in May were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.39 million, falling 2.0% from April and dipping 1.0% from the same month in 2024. Single-family authorizations dropped 2.7% from April to 898,000 in May. See U.S. Census Bureau
