U.S. housing starts in September were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.56 million, decreasing 1.6% from the revised August estimate but 7.4% higher than the comparable month in 2020. Single-family housing starts were nearly even with August at 1.08 million.
U.S. building permits in September were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.59 million, falling 7.7% from August and unchanged from the same month in 2020. Single-family authorizations inched upward by 0.9% to 1.04 million in September. See U.S. Census Bureau
