U.S. housing starts in July were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.53 million, decreasing 7.0% below the revised June estimate but 2.5% higher than the comparable month in 2020. Single-family housing starts fell 4.5% from June to 1.11 million.
U.S. building permits in July were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.64 million, rising 2.6% from June and up 6.0% from the same month in 2020. Single-family authorizations were down 1.7% from June to 1.05 million. See U.S. Census Bureau
