U.S. housing starts in August were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.62 million, increasing 3.9% above the revised July estimate and 17.4% higher than the comparable month in 2020. Single-family housing starts fell 2.8% from July to 1.08 million.
U.S. building permits in August were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.73 million, rising 6.0% from July and up 13.5% from the same month in 2020. Single-family authorizations inched upward by 0.6% to 1.05 million in August. See U.S. Census Bureau
