U.S. Housing Starts Dip in January

U.S. housing starts in January were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.331 million, declining 14.8% from December 2023 and 0.7% lower than the comparable month last year. Single-family starts decreased 4.7% to 1.004 million over December.

U.S. building permits were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.470 million, down 1.5% from December but increasing 8.6% from January 2023. Single-family authorizations were up 1.6% from December to 1.015 million. See U.S. Census Bureau
