U.S. housing starts in December 2023 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.460 million, declining 4.3% from November but 7.6% higher than the comparable month in 2022. Single-family starts decreased 8.6% to 1.027 million over November.
U.S. building permits were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.495 million, increasing 1.9% from November and 6.1% from December 2022. Single-family authorizations were up 1.7% from November to 994,000. See U.S. Census Bureau
