U.S. housing starts in September were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.439 million, dropping 8.1% from the revised August figure and 7.7% lower than the comparable month last year. Single-family starts declined 4.7% from August to 892,000.
U.S. building permits in September were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.564 million, increasing 1.4% from August but falling 3.2% from the same month in 2021. Single-family authorizations shrank 3.1% from August to 872,000 in September. See U.S. Census Bureau
