U.S. housing starts in August were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.3 million, falling 11.3% from July and 14.8% lower than the comparable month last year. Single-family starts dropped 4.3% to 941,000 over July.
U.S. building permits were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.5 million, growing 6.9% from July but declining 2.7% from August 2022. Single-family authorizations were up 2.0% from July to 949,000. See U.S. Census Bureau
