U.S. Home Size Continues to Increase

The third quarter U.S. Census Quarterly Starts and Completions by Purpose and Design report showed that the median single family home square footage increased 2.8% from the same period in 2020 to 2,337 feet.  After four years of declines, this is the second consecutive quarter of rising growth.  The rise is attributed to the increased need for work at home space due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This trend is expected to continue to affect home sizes in the future. See NAHB
