U.S. Furniture Sales Continue to Rise in December

U.S. residential furniture factory orders in December 2020 rose 27% above the comparable month in 2019 with nearly 84% of manufacturers reporting increases, according to a recent survey of manufacturers and distributors. A strong December helped annual orders top 2019 by 15%.

Furniture shipments were up 5% over December 2019 but ended 2020 6% lower than the prior year. With new orders exceeding shipments, backlogs continued to climb, registering 168% higher than December 2019. See Smith Leonard
