U.S. residential furniture factory orders in August rose 51% from the comparable month in 2019 and were up 9.8% from July, according to a recent survey of manufacturers and distributors. The surge in August helped year-to-date orders grow 6% from 2019, despite only 34% of survey respondents reporting higher levels than the year-ago period.
Furniture shipments increased 3% over August 2019 but fell 11% compared to the first eight months of last year. With new orders exceeding shipments, backlogs were 102% higher than August 2019. See Smith Leonard
