U.S. Consumer Confidence Plummets to 12-Year Low

U.S. consumer confidence registered at 84.5 in January, down 9.7 points from the adjusted December 2025 reading, according to The Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index. This is the lowest reading since May 2014. The index measuring current business and labor market conditions fell 9.9 points in January to 113.7. The short-term outlook index for the income, business, and labor markets dropped 9.5 points to 65.1, remaining below the 80-mark for the twelfth straight month, indicating a potential recession.
