The CPA 4-19 Eco-Certified CompositeTM (ECC) Sustainability Standard is the voluntary industry standard for highlighting the responsible use of wood fiber by manufacturers of composite wood or agrifiber-based panels, including particleboard, medium density fiberboard (MDF), hardboard, engineered wood siding, and engineered wood trim.
The standard focuses on verified environmentally responsible practices and life cycle inventories – including locally sourced materials, recycled/recovered fiber content, sustainable use of fiber and environmentally responsible sourcing. The CPA Carbon Calculator, a tool developed by a third-party expert, assesses the life cycle, carbon footprint, and greenhouse gas emissions of composite panel manufacturing facilities, requiring overall net carbon storage.
