U.S. Housing Starts Down in September

U.S. housing starts in September were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.35 million, decreasing 0.5% from August and 0.7% lower than the comparable month last year. Single-family starts grew 2.7% to 1.03 million in September.

U.S. building permits were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.43 million, declining 2.9% from August and 5.7% from September 2023. Single-family authorizations rose 0.3% from August to 970,000. See U.S. Census Bureau
