September U.S. Furniture Orders Increase

U.S. residential furniture factory orders in September were $2.6 billion, up 13.1% from the comparable month in 2022 and 0.7% higher than in August. Year-to-date orders increased 1.5% from the first nine months of 2022 to $20.5 billion.

Furniture shipments dropped 20.5% from last September to $2.3 billion and decreased 6.2% from August. Year-to-date shipments were $21.6 billion, a 17.9% decline from 2022. September backlogs were $2.8 billion, 45.5% lower than last year but up 3.9% from the prior month. See Smith Leonard
