September Construction Spending Strengthens

U.S. construction spending in September was estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $2.15 trillion, growing 0.1% from August and 4.6% higher than the same month in 2023.

Private spending was nearly even in September at $1.64 trillion. Residential expenditures improved 0.2% to $913.6 billion, and non-residential expenditures slipped 0.1% from August to $740.0 billion.

In both the private and public sectors, educational construction spending was $129.2 billion, up 0.3% from last month and 3.7% from September 2023. Construction spending in healthcare was $66.5 billion, 0.6% lower than August but up 0.9% from the comparable month last year.
