September Canadian Building Permits Post Mixed Results

Canadian building permits in September were down 6.5% to $11.2 billion (CAD) from August but increased 8.0% from the comparable period in 2022. Residential authorizations grew 4.3% from August and increased 2.3% from September 2022 to $7.2 billion. Single-family totals reached $2.8 billion, down 3.5% from August and 11.5% lower than last year. Multi-family levels were $4.4 billion in September, 9.9% higher than August and up 13.5% from the previous year. Non-residential permits dropped 21.0% from the prior month to $4.0 billion, declining 19.8% from September 2022. See Statistics Canada
