U.S. Interior Design Billings Rise in December
Interior design billings from the American Society of Interior Design (ASID) member-owned firms rose 0.3 points in December 2021, bringing the Interior Design Billings Index (IDBI) score to 52.8. Any score over 50 indicates growth. All geographic regions except for the West were above 50, with the South again leading the three-month average at 58.1.
December Canadian Building Permits Down
Canadian building permits in December 2021 fell 1.9% from November to $11.16 billion (CAD) but increased 19.9% from the year-ago period. Residential authorizations decreased 2.7% from November to $7.75 billion but were 19.1% higher than December 2020. Canadian Housing Starts Trend Lower in December
The monthly standalone seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of Canadian housing starts in December 2021 was 236,106 units, down 22 % from November. U.S. Construction Spending Slightly Up in December 2021
U.S. construction spending in December 2021 was estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $1.64 trillion, up 0.2% from November and a 9% increase over the year prior.
