USDA Grant Opportunity Supports Use of Wood

U.S. Home Sales Surge in September

U.S. sales of new single-family homes in September were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 759,000, increasing 12.3% from August and 33.9% higher than the comparable month in 2022. The seasonally adjusted estimate of new homes for sale through September was 435,000, representing a 6.9-month supply at the current sales rate. See U.S. Census

September Construction Spending Up

U.S. construction spending in September was estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $1.997 trillion, growing 0.4% from August and 8.7% higher than the same month last year. Year-to-date construction spending increased 4.6% to $1.464 trillion compared to the first nine months of 2022. Private construction spending was $1.556 trillion, climbing 0.4% from August.

U.S. Furniture Orders Increase in August

U.S. residential furniture factory orders in August were $2.6 billion, up 29.0% from the comparable month in 2022 and 12.7% higher than in July. September RV Shipments Down

Canadian Retail Sales Decline in August

Canadian seasonally adjusted retail furniture store sales in August decreased 1.6% from July to $1.18 billion (CAD) and were 6.7% lower than the same month in 2022. Sales for building material dealers were unchanged from July at $3.89 billion but fell 7.8% from August 2022. Total Canadian retail sales dipped 0.1% from July to $66.1 billion
