Duraplay Acquires Masisa Particleboard Mill in Mexico
Duraplay SAPI de CV, based in Parral, Mexico, announced the purchase of Masisa’s Forestal Terranova particleboard mill in Chihuahua. According to the terms of the acquisition, Masisa will continue to operate the plant until February 26. Duraplay operates more than 30 particleboard, MDF, and plywood manufacturing plants. November U.S. Kitchen and Bath Cabinet Sales Down
U.S. kitchen and bath cabinet sales in November 2023 were $214.1 million, 9.6% lower than the comparable month in 2022 and down 8.2% from October, according to the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association’s (KCMA) monthly “Trend of Business” member survey. Phillips Assumes Leadership Role at BMK Americas
BMK Americas, Lexington, NC, announced Mike Phillips has joined the company’s Board and will serve as Managing Director. U.S. Manufacturing Shipments Improved in November
Seasonally adjusted shipments for all U.S. manufacturing industries increased 0.5% from October 2023 to $580.7 billion in November. Wood product shipments were up 0.1% in November to $13.3 billion compared to the prior month. Shipments of furniture and related products grew 0.1% from October to $6.7 billion. New orders for all U.S. manufacturing rose 2.6%
November RV Shipments Up Year-over-Year
The RV Industry Association’s monthly survey of U.S. manufacturers reported November 2023 shipments totaled 25,160 units, increasing 2.8% from the comparable month in 2022 but declining 11.3% from October. Year-to-date shipments dropped 38.4% to 291,652 compared to the same period in 2022. See RV Industry Association
Canadian Building Permits Soften in November
In November 2023, Canadian building permits were down 3.9% to $10.9 billion (CAD) from October and decreased 4.2% from the comparable period in 2022. Residential authorizations dipped 2.8% from October and 2.2% from November 2022 to $7.0 billion. Single-family totals reached $2.8 billion, mostly unchanged from October but 3.6% lower than last year. Multi-family levels were $4.1
