Canadian hotel construction was down in the first quarter, with 259 projects representing 35,432 rooms under construction. Projects in Canada decreased 15% compared to Q1 2020, with 12% fewer rooms under construction than the year-ago period, due to COVID-19 stay-at-home orders and inter-provincial and international travel restrictions. Top cities for construction were Toronto with 59 projects with 8,145 rooms, followed distantly by Montreal, Niagara Falls and Vancouver.  See Lodging Econometrics
