October Building Permits Improve Year-over-Year in Canada

Canadian building permits in October were down 3.1% from September but increased 11.6% from the comparable month in 2023 to $12.6 billion (CAD). Residential authorizations grew 2.3% from September and 12.2% from October 2023 to $7.9 billion. Single-family totals were $2.9 billion, climbing 5.0% from last month and 5.7% from October 2023. Multi-family levels reached $5.0 billion in October, up 0.8% from September and 16.5% from the same month last year. Non-residential permits dropped 11.0% from the prior month but rose 10.4% from October 2023 to $4.7 billion.
