November Building Permits Weaken in Canada

In November, Canadian building permits totaled $11.7 billion (CAD), decreasing 5.9% from October 2024 but increasing 5.1% from the comparable month in 2023. Residential authorizations fell 7.5% from the prior month but rose 1.6% to $7.2 billion year-over-year. Single-family permits totaled $2.9 billion, declining 2.3% from October and 1.0% from November 2023. Multi-family levels were $4.4 billion in November, down 10.7% from October but up 3.3% from the same month in 2023. Non-residential permits dipped 3.2% from the prior month but improved 11.1% from November 2023 to $4.5 billion.
