April U.S. Housing Starts Down

U.S. housing starts in April were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.57 million, down 9.5% from the revised March estimate but 67.3% higher than the comparable month in 2020. Single-family housing starts decreased 13.4% from March to 1.09 million.

U.S. building permits in April were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.76 million, rising 0.3% from March and 60.9% higher than the same month in 2020. Single-family authorizations fell 3.8% from March to 1.15 million. See U.S. Census Bureau
