2020 CPA Safety Awards Announced
This week CPA announced the recipients of the 2020 Safety Awards. Traditionally, the prestigious awards are presented at the CPA Spring Chairman’s dinner, however in this unusual year the 2020 Safety Awards were named during the Production-Technical Committee meeting.
Safety Awards are given to participating manufacturing plants with exemplary safety records, including acknowledgments for long-term, annual, safety improvement and safety achievement. For each award, plants are categorized by low worker-hours (Class I) and high-worker hours (Class II).
The awards for the best long-term safety record over the past three years were Maibec, East River, Nova Scotia (Class I) and Arauco North America, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario (Class II).
The annual safety awards for having the lowest incident rate for 2020 were West Fraser-WestPine MDF, Quesnel, British Columbia for Class I plants, and Arauco North America, Moncure (MDF), North Carolina for Class II plants.
Two plants recognized for safety improvement were Collins Products (Particleboard), Klamath Falls, Oregon (Class I) and Collins Products (Hardboard), Klamath Falls, Oregon (Class II).
Seven plants were recognized for achieving an incident rate of less than 50% of the industry average over the past three years. Class I plants were Roseburg, Eldorado, Arkansas; Woodgrain, LaGrande, Oregon; Panolam Industries, Huntsville, Ontario; and West Fraser-WestPine MDF, Quesnel, British Columbia. Class II plants were Arauco North America, Malvern, Arkansas; Arauco North America, Moncure (MDF), North Carolina; and Arauco North America, St. Stephen, New Brunswick.
CPA congratulates all of the companies and personnel whose exceptional records and commitment to safety earned these prestigious awards.
