Canadian Building Permits Hits Record High in January

Canadian building permits in January increased 8.2% from December 2020 to a record-breaking $9.9 billion (CAD) and were up 6.4% from the year-ago period.  Residential authorizations also broke records, rising 10.6% from December to $7.1 billion and were 20.9% higher than January 2020.  Single-family totals reached a record $3.5 billion, up 15.1% from December and increasing 50.6% from the prior year.  Multi-family levels grew 6.5% from December at $3.5 billion and rose 1.0% from January 2020.  See Statistics Canada
