NAS Issues Report Critical of EPA’s TSCA Chemical Review

The National Academies of Science (NAS) this week issued a report critical of the “systematic review” approach used by EPA in 2018 for assessing, under the Toxics Substances Control Act (TSCA), the risks to human health and the environment posed by high priority chemicals.  In December 2019, EPA requested that NAS provide an analysis of the 2018 systematic review process that was intended to guide the agency’s efforts to address TSCA’s high priority chemicals.  The Biden administration, through Executive Order, has already halted the use of the 2018 systematic review process developed and utilized by the Trump administration.  It is not yet clear how the new administration will proceed in confronting a back log of chemical reviews, including formaldehyde. See NAS Report
