U.S. Housing Starts Increase Over April

U.S. housing starts in May were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 974,000, up 4.3% from the revised April estimate but 23.2% lower than the comparable month last year. Single-family housing starts increased 0.1% from April to 675,000.

U.S. building permits in May were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.22 million, up 14.4% from April but declining 8.8% from the same month in 2019. Single-family authorizations increased 11.9% from April to 745,000. See U.S. Census Bureau
