Canadian Building Permits Down; Multi-Family Rises in April

Canadian building permits in April dropped 17.1% from March to $6.0 billion (CAD) and were down 37% from the year-ago period.  April residential authorizations fell 14.2% from the prior month to $3.9 billion and decreased 35% from the comparable month in 2019.  Single-family totals decreased 35.9% from March to $1.4 billion and fell 38.1% from the prior year.  Multi-family levels were up 4.8% to $2.6 billion but declined 33.2% from April 2019.  See Statistics Canada
