U.S. Housing Starts Down in March

U.S. housing starts in March were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.2 million, down 22.3% from the revised February estimate but 1.4% higher than the comparable month last year. Single-family housing starts decreased 17.5% from February to 856,000.

U.S. building permits in March were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.35 million, falling 6.8% from February but up 5.0% from the same month in 2019. Single-family authorizations dropped 12.0% from February to 884,000. See U.S. Census Bureau
