Wood Products Included on Canadian Federal List of Essential Businesses

Public Safety Canada issued this week the federal list of “Guidance on Essential Services and Functions in Canada During the COVID-19 Pandemic” and included the following:

Workers who support the manufacture and distribution of forestry products, including, but not limited to timber, paper, and other wood products

Similar to the U.S. federal government’s list, this is only guidance and provinces are free to adopt individual lists.  Many provinces have already issued individual “essential business” lists, so it is unclear what the true impact of this will be over the coming weeks.  Those provinces that have issued a list include  Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Alberta and Saskatchewan.  Fortunately, a majority of these provinces have guidance in place the clearly allows for the continued operation of composite panel manufacturing, except for Quebec.  The Quebec government, however, has demonstrated a willingness to grant waivers, which has helped CPA members operating in the province.  The federal list may provide additional support for future waiver requests and support a more consistent approach nationally.  See Canadian Federal List.  More Info: Jackson Morrill
