U.S. Furniture Orders Up in December

U.S. residential furniture factory orders in December 2019 rose 4% over the comparable month in 2018, according to a recent survey of manufacturers and distributors. Of those surveyed, 58% reported higher orders in December. Total 2019 orders were 2% lower than the previous year, with 71% of respondents experiencing annual decreases.

December shipments were up 2% from the year prior, and year-to-date totals were slightly higher than 2018. For 2019, 62% of participants reported lower shipments. See Smith Leonard
