U.S. Housing Starts Down in January

U.S. housing starts in January were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.57 million, down 3.6% from the revised December estimate but 21.4% higher than the comparable month last year.  Single-family housing starts decreased 5.9% from December to 1.01 million.

U.S. building permits in January were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.55 million, rising 9.2% from December and 17.9% from the same month in 2019.  Single-family authorizations rose 6.4% above December to 987,000.  See U.S. Census Bureau
