Houzz Kitchen Trends for 2020
Houzz recently released its 2020 U.S. Houzz Kitchen Trends Study, which surveyed 2,598 U.S. homeowners about recent or planned kitchen renovation projects. Major findings include an emphasis on the kitchen island, with one out of every two homeowners planning a new island or upgrade. Of those surveyed, 98% of homeowners are including extra storage as part of the island design, with 78% adding cabinets with doors and 70% containing drawers. Two in five chose a contrasting color for the island, with gray and blue being the most popular choices.
Homeowners are also planning to spend more on renovations in 2020, but the scope of renovations is decreasing. The median spend in 2020 for major remodels is up 17% from last year to $35,000, but fewer people are modifying the size or shape of the kitchen or opening the space to other rooms.
Of those responding, 94% planned a cabinet-related renovation, with 68% including a total replacement. White cabinets are still the most popular choice at 45% followed by wood-tone at 22%. Shaker style cabinetry is still the leader in door styles at 61% with flat panel a distant second at 21%. Farmhouse style had the steepest drop in popularity, while modern had the largest jump, up 4% to 15% in 2020. See Houzz
